Breaking News

We got a lava lamp.

Gas for trip to the mall: $3.00
Lava lamp: $20
Trying to keep your 7-year old from reading all the naughty things in Spencer's Gifts while keeping a straight face: priceless.

In other news: from my dad, the trivia king, via email this morning...

On Wednesday of this week, at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 in the morning, the time and date will be

01:02:03 04/05/06.

That won't ever happen again.

You may now return to your (normal ?) life.

Oh, but it will happen again, says the Scorpio who always has the last word. (That'd be me, in case you were wondering). It will happen in the year 2106, which is probably not going to be in my lifetime unless I live to 138 years of age. Heaven forbid.

Anyway, he also added that:

Along the same line of thinking, six minutes and six seconds after 6:00 a.m. on June 6, the time and date will be 06:06:06 06/06/06.

I have too much time on my hands apparently. And, it would seem, I am not alone. Posted by Picasa

I can remember going into Spencers's as pre-teen/early teen and reading all of those things, because I knew I wasn't supposed to. Once it's not forbidden, the store really loses some of it's draw until you're looking for a lava lamp or blacklight poster.

The thing with the date will also happen on the fourth of next month in all those places around the world that use the order month, date, year instead. But they're all really screwed up, so I don't think they should count.

(contrarian Aquarian has his say)

This is only true if you write the date in the format month-day-year, for those of us who prefer some thing that makes more sense like year-month-day this has already passed (although, I can accept day-month-year – in which case you have a month to prepare).

I love lava lamps! I own a purple one myself.

As for the number of the beast, the canonical version is generally given to be 666, however, some ancient manuscripts read 616 – but 060606 is not one of them ;-)

actually that date time thing will happen again in may, depending on how you like to keep dates. Since some people like to do day/month/year not month/day/year....

day/month/year makes more sense to me, but I never use it....

Don't worry Jesse, I tried to point that out in my comment up at the top, but I managed to screw it up and point out something completely incorrect.

I think my father, although no longer here, must be living vicariously through your dad.

I've got a big, gold lava lamp with red . . . stuff in it. And give your dad a hug for me -- I LIVE for that kind of information!

Pretty lava lamp! When I was a kid, my nightlight was one of those big gold lava lamps with the red stuff. Too groovy.
